WNWN Introduces its Next Alt-Chocolate Product: Waim! Bars
First company to bring cacao-free chocolate to market unveils second product
LONDON, September 26, 2022 – WNWN Food Labs, the first to bring cacao-free chocolate to market, today announced its second product will be its version of a classic Daim bar: the Waim! bar. The limited-release candy bars are covered in cacao-free choc made by applying traditional fermentation techniques to plant-based ingredients.
In addition to cacao-free, WNWN alt-choc is also free of unfair labor practices, habitat destruction due to deforestation, and produces 80 percent less CO2 emissions than the conventional chocolate supply chain according to a lifecycle assessment. More than a million child laborers are estimated to work in Ivory Coast and Ghana, where three-quarters of the world’s cacao is grown. Unlike most mass-market chocolates and its cacao-free competitors, WNWN also avoids palm oil: like cacao, palm oil is responsible for a host of environmental harm.
WNWN’s Waim! bar will be available beginning September 28 exclusively at www.wnwnfoodlabs.com. A box of three bars will sell for £8 GB, shipping and taxes included (about $9 U.S.), on par with premium chocolate.
In less than a year since its founding, WNWN (pronounced “win-win”) rapidly developed its proprietary process to transform sustainable ingredients into alt-chocolate that tastes, melts, snaps and bakes just like chocolate. It is vegan, caffeine-free, gluten-free, lower in sugar than comparable products, and safe for dogs since it contains no theobromine.
WNWN’s Waim! Bar, developed with an in-house chocolatier, is a nutty, crunchy, candy bar filled with vegan toffee and dipped in the world’s first cacao-free choc. In blind taste tests alongside cacao-based dark chocolate, consumers described the products as “very similar.”
“The Waim! bar is our take on an iconic European candy bar, but without the catastrophic impact on people and planet,” said WNWN CEO and cofounder Ahrum Pak). “Our chocolate habit is contributing to deforestation, biodiversity loss, soil erosion, CO2 emissions, child slavery, and unfair trade practices.”
British barley—used for centuries in whisky and beer—and carob form the base of WNWN’s cacao-free chocolate. These and other plant-based ingredients are fermented and roasted using a proprietary process to build a flavor profile that mirrors the complexity and makeup of chocolate and the melt-in-the-mouth properties of cacao butter, without using cacao.
Along with pursuing supply relationships, WNWN plans to explore how other foods can be future-proofed from changing climates, biodiversity loss, and from production monopolies that pay unfair wages and foster poor working conditions. These include coffee, tea and vanilla, which each have supply chains mired in unethical and unsustainable practices.
